Amazon Offers $50 Credit For HD DVD Owners
The offer is good for one year.

Washington, D.C. (April 9, 2008) -- Amazon.com is offering a $50 credit to anyone who purchased an HD DVD player from the site before February 23, 2008.
The credit, which is good until April 9, 2009, can be used for any product except for what Amazon terms "special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift-wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling charges."
Amazon notified HD DVD owners of the credit in an e-mail sent this week. The e-commerce site noted that the HD DVD high-def disc format will no longer exist because principal backer Toshiba decided to pull the plug.
"New technologies don't always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com," the e-mail said.
Amazon added that the credit is redeemable for up to 10 players for a maximum credit of $500.
The site joins Best Buy, Circuit City and Wal-Mart as retailers who are offering refunds or discounts for HD DVD owners.

The offer, which lasts until April 18, is good for 58 different Blu-ray films including such recent releases as Run, Lola, Run, Ocean's Thirteen and The Departed.
Many of the titles are priced at $19.95 which means you could get three Blu-ray movies for less than $40.
Amazon says it's also offering a pre-order $39.95 deal on the Blu-ray bundle of National Treasure and National Treasure 2 -- Book of Secrets.
